Summary

We started from the project charter, outlining the objectives, activities and results to be achieved by the end of the project. This allowed the associations to have a clear picture of what, how and when to carry out the activities. Glamour Events, che Coordinator was spported by C.S.E.N. ("National Educational Sports Center"), the national sports promotion body to which Glamour Events is affiliated, thanks to which it has been possible to monitor and implement the planned activities, through their project office. In the initial phase, the project kick-off workshop was organized in Sassari and Sennori (Italy). During the first day of the workshop, the promotional video of the project prepared by the Latvian partner was shown and an analysis of current national situations and good practices was conducted. In addition, the participants were divided into two subgroups: 1) Planning and launch of the social promotion campaign for the inclusion of chess in the teaching curriculum in schools; 2) Study of European good national practices for teaching chess in schools. Subsequently the two groups joined together for the final decision on the "interview model" to be administered to representatives of sports associations, teachers, instructors, chess players and journalists from each participating country (for a total of 100 interviews). The answers to the "interview model" were fundamental for the development of the draft training model for teaching chess in primary schools (ISCED 1). Using the collected data, a "Report" was created containing a description of the national policies on school chess; on good management practices; on the analysis of the questionnaire data; Draft guidelines of the teaching model. On the basis of the report, the Spanish partner and the Coordinator then developed the "model for the teaching model". The "heart" of the project was the testing of the draft training module in the 5 schools involved in the project (including 2 in Italy) between November 2018 and May 2019, with a total commitment of 30h for each class. The lessons were held by the instructors of the organizations involved in the project. On the occasion of the event at L’Espluga de Francolì (Spain), the final version of the educational book was printed, printed in 5 languages between October and November 2019.The event in Spain involved 12 local classes (from the cities of Reus, Tarragona, L’Espluga de Francolì, and Montblanc), who took turns playing on both the classic and the giant chessboard, alternating with logic games. The educational book was sent to the General Director of EACEA and was distributed to teachers and chess clubs from the 4 countries involved in the project. The final event, held in Sennori, was the occasion to disseminate the results of the project and sign the foundation of the European School Chess Network, which aims to promote the inclusion of chess as a curricular subject in schools. ISCED 1 of the European Union, through the following main activities: - Dissemination of the educational book; - Elaboration on the basis of the educational book of a new model for the purpose of implementation in other school levels (ISCED 2 and ISCED 3); - Dissemination and promotion of the Network in order to involve other Sports Associations and Schools. In November 2019, thanks to the invitation from the European Chess Union (ECU), which, intrigued by our project, wanted to get closer to it, we participated for free in the London Chess Conference, the most famous conference in the world on chess (more than 150 participants from all over the world and admission fee around £90), here we were able to present the Network in front of the ECU Chess Educational Committee and show the project and its results the following day, during the Conference. Local dissemination events were organized in each country involved, to present the book and distribute it to teachers, representatives of sports associations, instructors and chess players.
