Sport for Europe: strengthening European values through sports values
▶Summary
The “Sport for Europe” project aims to help sports organisations, namely National Olympic Committees, umbrella sports organisations and their member organisations, to reflect their current role as promoters of values in society and most important to strengthen their activities by building on their existing integration work. The project was developed due to the current societal and political situation in Europe in terms of values application. It is obvious, that European core values, such as respect for human dignity, freedom and equality have witnessed massive challenges over the last years, seeing harsher political communication, emphasising differences instead of common ground. These European values are, however, tightly linked to sports values - values of Olympism, promoted since ancient times by various sports actors.Being aware of this, four project partners, namely sports organisations, actively working in the area of values promotion and application on the basis of integration work, want to use the unique chance of the small collaborative partnership in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme to take up their societal responsibility and to consolidate their know-how. By this they will strengthen each other and other like-minded organisations and contribute to a more integrative and equal European society in a global sense. To achieve the general objective, the partners plan four activities, each accompanied by one corresponding meeting. In the framework of these activities the partner will:• discuss the theoretical aspects of their work of values promotion;• exchange good practices in the area of values application and review them from an international perspective;• brainstorm further potential and possible gaps of their work in values application and promotion;• aggregate the findings in a user-friendly form and disseminate, ensuring by this the sustainability of the project even after the end of the project's run.
