Summary

The main objective of the project EMSCo was to improve the training of sports coaches with particular attention to the development of mentoring skills. We refer to that set of very important maieutic approaches and methodologies in order to make sport a truly effective educational experience.These skills are often acquired by sports coaches spontaneously and independently, because the coaches' training courses do not usually include the study and acquisition of mentoring methodologies and approaches.Improving the mentoring capacity of sports coaches means promoting sport as an educational tool capable of strengthening the self-esteem of young people, and people of all ages and cultural belonging, discovering and training their potential, as well as cultivating the ability of people to relate to diversity, to include and respect everyone. to develop healthy competition and thus contribute to the development of a less violent, more inclusive, multicultural world.To reach this aim, the project developed a good practice exchange among organizations in Italy, Spain, Poland and Turkey that work on the field of training of sport coaches. Through the Exchange of good practice, the project have created some intellectual outputs. In particular:- Research on training of sport coaches Italy, Spain, Poland, Turkey- EMSCo Good practice collection- Interview on Mentoring Skills Report - Enhancing Mentoring Skills of Sport Coaches ManualWith his aims and results the project addressed the topic “Promote education in and through sport with special focus on skills development”.IMPACTThe impact on participants, participating organisations and stakeholders during the project lifetime concerned:•increase of awareness about the importance of mentoring in sport coaching;•Improvement of knowledge about mentoring skills relevant for sport coaches;•increase of awareness about the importance to train sport coaches with a focus on mentoring;•acquisition of new ideas and good practices to promote mentoring skills in sport coaching.
