Summary

TREES – Training Routes Educate European Society has been a 18 months project that addressed the topic “Promote education in and through sport with special focus on skills development” through the will to promote the social role of sports in nature and to foster the development of skills among volunteers on the management sports in naturalistic areas with respect for rules and traditions of those places.TREES has been carried out by a partnership of complementary organisations from 4 EU Countries (IT, PT,PL,HU) focused on the following objectives:-rise awareness on unconventional and naturalistic sports;-increase the knowledge among amateurs and volunteers on the peculiar rules and methodologies of sports in nature;-create networks for the internationalisation of competences and exchange of best practices;-promote voluntary activity in sport, social inclusion, equal opportunity and sport for all;-foster the social values of sports and their connection with traditions, history and culture;-involve PA at local, regional and national level;-contribute to the European Week of Sport 2019;-produce tangible outputs: mapping of trails for running and online publication with Guidelines for the mapping and management of trails.The following activities and outputs were generated by TREES implementation:-Awareness campaign on naturalistic sports and trail running;-Open days on the protection and management of naturalistic areas;-Promotion of good governace and sport values among trail running teams;-3 Transnational Project Meeting for the training of operators and volunteers on trail management and protection, events for mapping of new trails for trail running races;First Meeting in Miskolc (HU) 24-28/01/2019 “Sport in Naturalistic Areas: rules and principles of trail mapping”.Second Meeting in Valongo (PT) 26-30/04/2019 “Sport in Naturalistic Areas: the social role of naturalistic sports”Third Meeting in Wieliszew (PL) 20-23/09/2019 “Sport in Naturalistic Areas: rules and principles for sustainable sport activities”-Mapping of new trails during the events;-Guidelines for trail mapping.The activities involved around 3500 members of sport organisation in the 4 Countries and around 50.000 indirectly reached public around Europe through dissemination. The participants directly involved in the mobilities were 62 in total.The 18 months of the project led to the following impacts:-active participation of trainers and athletes in the activities of the involved organisation;-internationalisation of competencies and methods and sharing best practices at EU level, improvement of a sense of European citizenship;-promotion of the European policies on sport, sport for all, Erasmus+ Sport Programme, actions and funding to voluntary activities in sport;-better integration of sport organisations and teams in the civil society;-enhance the comprehension of the educational role of sport and the social role of sport in nature;-development of new skills;-sharing of best practices and cross-fertilisation of methods and ideas through the synergy between different and complementary organisations;-enhancement of the competencies of small running team and organisations to cooperate internationally;-increased opportunities for the mobility of athletes and trainers;-creation of synergies with the local community and civic engagement of athletes;-promotion of volunteerism in sport;-promote “sports for all” and participation in recreational sport activities;-enhance the knowledge about naturalistic sports;-promotion of the European Week of Sport 2019 and future editions.
