RaceRunning – Speed and Freedom for All
▶Summary
Background The RUNFREE project developed a strategic event series concept around the sport of Frame Running. The concept comprises replicable and adaptable tools with practical recommendations on how to reach out and engage people with cerebral palsy and related neurological conditions to take part in Frame Running at a local and national level. The tools include resources on how to hold a ‘Have a Go’ day, an entry level competition, a coaching course and awareness raising measures including an animation. Objectives 1.Increase the number of opportunities for people with high levels of impairment associated with cerebral palsy and related conditions to take part in aerobic physical activity2.Create replicable and adaptable tools for those facilitating Frame Running around Europe to allow them to develop Frame Running in their area. 3.Pilot all material created with a series of events4.Translate the material to make it more accessible throughout partner countries and in wider Europe Implementation A comprehensive set of tools were created and piloted to support the event series, including how to hold a Frame Running Have a Go day, an entry level competition and a coaching course. Awareness raising materials were developed including an animated video. The Have a Go day was piloted in Portugal twice and England once, the Entry Level Competition was piloted in Denmark and the coaching course was piloted online 3 times and as an offline course in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. Achievements 17 different tools were created in total for the RUNFREE project, all of which are available on the RUNFREE website in three languages (EN, DK, PT). A graphic is available which shows how the tools work together and everything is free to download for everyone. An online ‘Introduction to Frame Running’ course was also created due to this project which is free to access via the CPISRA website. 4 events were held during the project for people with CP and there were 6 coach education opportunities.
