Summary

Background Physical inactivity is affecting all corners of society in Europe. The European Union institutions and grassroots sport organisations have placed emphasis on challenging this trend. It is undeniable, however, that there is a still need for more actions in this regard. The Europe in Action project is at the forefront of helping to fulfill that need by providing support for and contributing to the transfer of existing EU key policy areas into practical action within EU member states and beyond. Objectives The project aims to promote participation in sport and physical activity by providing analytic, educational and know-how activities all over Europe in order to integrate the existing policies into practice as well as to make use of the practitioner's experience to ensure that participation is promoted at all levels. This will further strengthen an understanding of how to assist 5 geographical regions of Europe with planning, implementing and monitoring grassroots sport programmes and events. Implementation Throughout 17 transnational project meetings and 4 multiplier sports events, 5 work packages were developed and delivered to achieve the set objectives. The work packages included the following activities: ·Mapping of European policy delivery frameworks (ranging from national strategies, policies and guidelines to local deliverables)·Identification of key themes & challenges ·Collection of European delivery good practices ·Design, development & piloting of non-formal Educational Modules Achievements Over a 3-year period, a total of 6 intellectual outputs were created including a qualitative report outlining trends in grassroots sport policy delivery across Europe, online database of good practices and creation of 13 educational modules. All outputs can be found on the educational modules platform. Hosting a module is possible beyond 2022 as a legacy of Europe in Action project, ensuring the education model is continued in Europe and other continents to benefit the grassroots sport movement.
