Sport Power: Promoting Sport for Women Empowerment
▶Summary
Background Women still find lots of difficulties in sport and other social and professional fields to make their efforts recognized despite their evident successes. Sport could be a driving force for women empowerment, for their participation in social and cultural life, increasing their self-esteem and enable them to make choices about their lives. It was also helpful to fight against discrimination and gender violence, which is an increasing phenomenon in the countries participating in the project. Objectives - Promote equal opportunities and awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity through participation in sport, and equal access to sports;- Improve competences of professionals and volunteers who train, prepare and manage sports activities, increasing women’s participation;- Promoting women’s participation in sport as a tool for their empowerment;- Promote connections and good practices exchange between organizations in the field of sport. Implementation The project was implemented at local and international level through the activities: Analysis of equal opportunities in sport, mapping of stakeholders and meetings with them; coaches and athletes training tools and programs on gender equality. Transnational coordination meetings; a seminar was held in Trevi (Italy) to share the information gathered from the analysis, exchange good practices, promoting gender equality and apply the Toolkit for women empowerment created. Achievements The Project results were: the Toolkit for women empowerment and the Toolkit in practice; the Map of Stakeholders; a project website with materials developed; the activities at local scale, as well as the experiences of the participants, the intellectual results and the impact at the local and transnational level of the project were collected and published in the website; a video compilation with photographs and videos of all the activities, for the dissemination and multiplication of results.
