Streets To Raise European Education Through Sport
▶Summary
Background STREETS was born with the aim to promote street sports but also wanted to combine the importance of health-enhancing physical activities with the need to give value to abandoned urban areas. Firstly, sport can be one of the keys to foster solidarity and union since it involves volunteering, team games and cooperation.Beside the solidarity,the Project focused on health-importance of sports, among the benefits placed attention on the well-being effect since it reduces stress and prevents illness. Objectives The main priorities were to save, keep active some urban areas in the cities or villages (especially abandoned zones), and to support prevention, educational and innovative approaches to tackle violence, racism and intolerance in sport. The Project also wanted to support the implementation of the European Week of Sport which is an event launched by the European Commission to promote sport and physical activities in the EU, that usually takes place annualy during the last week of September. Implementation The staff and the athletes moved in the involved Countries to share know-how, skills, experiences, compare sport programmes, best practices, develop actions and also to foster new potential athletes with the specific objective to encourage social inclusion and equal opportunities. The activities were promoted avoiding the risk of violence and intolerance, beside the willingness to safeguard, revalue urban areas was highlighted the importance of health-enhancing trough physical activities. Achievements The project had a very positive outcome taking into account the active participation of all countries involved, the spread and valorisation of values such as awareness of European values, equal opportunities, volunteering and active participation at European level, not only at local level and the great physical and mental benefits of sports.In addition the Transnational Project Meetings had a sociocultural, urban and touristic impact in the European territories chosen as venues.
