Background The goal of the SKISAFE project is protect preadolescent ski athletes in age range from 10-14 from health and safety hazards. The concept of this project is to ensure that coaches and sports trainers are educated on the importance of protection of the youngest athletes on the areas of the health and safety risks. To improve training and conditions we put the accent also on safety equipment and practice for prevention of injury. Objectives The objective of the SKISAFE project is protect young ski athletes from health and safety hazards. By analyzing good practice examples, exchange experiences and organizing practical workshops on the ski trails, we non-formally educated ski coaches and instructors. Also, we helped the young athletes by providing safety equipment and other necessary equipment to release the full potential of safe training environment. Implementation We have had two capacity building activities which were the bedrock of our project. The capacity building activities were organized in the top level performance, with all the necessary attendees. On the other hand, we organized a televised final conference, with many important authorities from local and national sport levels, which was a great success. Achievements During and following the completion of SKISAFE project, we were able to achieve these results: -Educated 30+ ski coaches and ski instructors from three different countries-involved 25+ children in our project and provided them with skiing safety equipment, such as ski poles, gloves and helmets.-Over 110 participants from three different countries attending the capacity building activities and final conference.-Produced educational materials for next generations to use.
