Emerging forms of employment in the sport sector in Europe
โถSummary
Background 2019 research showed 69% of EU sport organisations have trouble hiring skilled staff; 44% cited unattractive wages, terms and conditions as the reasons. Retention is equally difficult for around a third. Statistical analysis shows a very high number of part-time staff. The professionalisation of the sport workforce is being held back. One reason may be the inflexibility of traditional contracts. New forms of employment in sport could create more flexibility and help growth and sustainability.
