Empowering women in basketball
▶Summary
Background Sport encourages social interaction and promotes physical and mental health. It also fosters education, communication, negotiation skills and leadership, vital for women’s empowerment. Promoting equality in sports is one of the key goals of the Council of Europe, which is often considered the area of prevalence of "male" values. Within this project, we contributed to: Enhancing the visibility and status of women’s basketball in project countries; Strengthen women's youth basketball, Enhance the Objectives The specific goal of the project is strengthening capacity of women in basketball through Best Practice Exchange Workshops (BPEW).The specific objectives of the project are:•raising awareness on women’s basketball in project countries•raising awareness on the importance of including more female coaches and referees into basketball •building the capacity of women basketball clubs and female managers/administrative staff in basketball clubs Implementation Project was implemented in 3 EU countries. During the implementation, we have organized 4 TPM’s and implemented all the activities in scope of the following work packages: WP1: Project management , WP2: Best practice exchange workshops, WP3: Evaluation of project implementation and development of Woman’s basketball Manual, WP4: Dissemination and Visibility. Main project output - Woman’s basketball Manual was delivered and disseminated to women sport clubs and associations on EU level. Achievements Woman’s basketball Manual consists of summary of desk research on current position of woman’s basketball and best practices collection from each partner country and conclusions of all workshops. The focus of the Manual is on the measures and recommendations aimed at improving position of woman’s basketball, women trainers and women referees in project countries and in EU. Women’s basketball manual was disseminated to women sport clubs and associations in partner countries and on EU level.
