Summary

Background Match-fixing is deeply infiltrated in the sports universe, and it still faces a lack of systematic and articulated response from sports, governments and society. Heterogeneous legal frameworks, reluctancy to adopt enforcement measures, difficulties in assessing right approach and lack of tools or thoughtful and efficient cooperation, all favour the organized crime’ continuous success. In this framework, BITEFIX aims to provide innovative and practical tools to work together against match-fixing. Objectives •Contribute to identify and put in value successful initiatives, projects or strategies in countering match-fixing•Create and implement innovative educational package on specific matters relating to sport integrity•Promote collaboration & networking between key stakeholders and experts in exchanging timely, secure and reliable information, in respect to personal data protection•Develop policy recommendations and European-wide policy solutions to combat match-fixing in sports at all levels Implementation The project started with desk research and focus groups to create a Guide of Good Practices to counter match-fixing and betting fraud. In the next 18 months, partners designed an Educational Program on sport integrity and match-fixing. Simultaneously, partners identified experts to engage in an e-community, leading to the creation of “BITEFIX Podcasts’. Building on all the previous work, partners consolidated project’s Policy Recommendations; all contents made available in the project’s website. Achievements BITEFIX has produced the 4 main results foreseen: IO1: Guide of good practices on the fight against match-fixing IO2: Educational Package on Exchange of Information, Data Protection and tools to fight match-fixing IO3: BITEFIX e-Community Podcasts, as method for cooperation, information sharing and networkingIO4: Policy Recommendations and European-wide policy solutions on exchange of information, data protection and operational tools to combat match-fixing in sports at all levels
