Summary

Background The OrNat2000 project united sport, environment and inclusion in a common path between 5 partners from 4 different European countries. This project provided the opportunity to show to a larger number of people (children, adults, elderly, able-bodied and not) the benefits and potential of sports orienteering: combining an outdoor sport with an awareness of the values of nature and biodiversity, in order to strengthen the concept of "healthy nature for healthy people". Objectives The project aimed to: - Promote European traditional orienteering sport. - Encourage social inclusion and equal opportunities in specifically tailored discipline of sport orienteering (TrailO).- Support the mobility of volunteers, coaches, managers and staff of non‐profit sport organisations.- Acquire and improve competences on developing and testing outdoor activities as tool to engage people in nature conservation topics.- Develop and disseminate a toolbox for TRailO initiatives. Implementation - Phase 0 ‐ Preparatory activities A.1: study and review of existing examples, best practices and ongoing projects.- Phase 1 ‐ Education activity B.1‐ courses: courses for Team’s technicians and volunteers operating in.- Phase 2 ‐ Let’go in the OrNat2000 TrailO events C.1: put in practice the acquired competences and knowledge during local and final events.- Horizontal activities: Mapping day (produce Orienteering maps) and development of digital Sport4Nature&Health toolkit (final outcome). Achievements The results achieved are: - network of sports organisations and disadvantaged people associations;- events in the area of each partner;- two different types of training courses;- new maps for TrailO;- a unique logo;- a dedicated webpage;- a big final event that also included competitions at European level with the participation of athletes from all countries;- a final toolkit: a video produced by the ANFFAS association;- collection of 'good practices': sports, inclusion and environment
